Dr Jason Paige
Jason’s career in vascular ultrasound spans 20 years and he is one of Australia’s most highly regarded vascular sonographers. As well as vast clinical experience Jason has an active interest in research, studying the diagnosis of arterial and venous disease.
Jason initially obtained his Bachelor of Science in 1984 and then completed examinations in the Diploma of Medical Ultrasound (Vascular) in Australia and as a Registered Vascular Technologist in the USA. In 2004 Jason completed his PhD at RMIT University entitled “The aetiology of varicose veins” which identified a previously unreported pattern of varicose veins as well as establishing the prevalence of several less recognized causes of venous disease. Jason currently maintains research interests through Box Hill Hospital, the Alfred Hospital, RMIT and Monash Universities.
Jason began his career in Vascular Ultrasound in 1985. From 1989 to1997 he was the Director of the Vascular Laboratory at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. In 1997 he founded Vascular Imaging Services, a private diagnostic ultrasound service, which operates at a number of sites throughout Melbourne. Jason is currently the Director of Vascular Imaging Services.
Jason presents regularly at national and international meetings and has published a number of papers. Since 1989 he has conducted numerous training courses in Vascular Ultrasound with attendees from Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the Middle East.
Jason is actively involved in the education and accreditation of the ultrasound profession as a clinical tutor at RMIT University, an examiner for the Diploma of Medical Ultrasound and as the secretary for the Australian Vascular Ultrasound Accreditation Board.
Jason’s wealth of knowledge as well as his passion and enthusiasm for research and education are reflected in his highly regarded presentations. Since 2000 Jason has been a lecturer and tutor with the Canberra School of Sonography and the Australian School of Medical Imaging, providing comprehensive training in Vascular Ultrasound in a clinical environment.

Margaret Lawton
Margie Lawton has more than 27 years clinical and research experience in vascular technology at leading Australian Hospitals. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and was one of the earliest users of Doppler applications for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) detection in Australia, starting in 1971.
Following more than a decade establishing specialist research laboratories in haematology and renal disease, both involving coagulation, platelet function and drug efficacy to reduce blood clotting, she joined the Royal North Shore Hospital Vascular lab in early 1983.
For the past 27 years, Margie has been in working in clinical practice and training sonographers and doctors in all aspects of vascular technology in dedicated vascular labs and general radiology practices. Over this time she was awarded the Diploma of Medical Ultrasound (Vascular). She has also been responsible for complete accreditation of and protocol development for multiple ultrasound clinics.
During her career, Margie has been involved in numerous ground-breaking research projects at Royal North Shore, St Vincent’s and St George Hospitals Vascular Laboratories. Highlights of her research include the pioneering work on direct plaque morphology correlation with B Mode finding and development of Internal Carotid artery criteria for 70-79% stenosis.
Margie has an impressive record in vascular sonography education supervising vascular ultrasound training of general sonographers, tutoring trainee sonographers, examining for Monash University clinical exams, and coordinating DMU examination.
She has been an ASMI tutor in vascular sonography and lecturer in the GPMU and intensive short courses since 2007.
