Information for Radiology Managers The Australian School of Medical Imaging is delighted to announce that following significant reform and development, the Graduate Program in Medical Ultrasound (GPMU) will be delivered from February 2008. For more detailed information about the GPMU please email admin@asmi.edu.au or contact the ASMI office on (02) 9482 8711. TESTIMONIAL In early 2010 I was a radiographer with an interest in ultrasound but I didn’t have an immediate clear pathway to pursue my goal of becoming a sonographer. I’d had non-committal, idle promises for some training in the ultrasound department however staffing issues always got in the way. I’d heard about ASMI through several sonographers and the respect within the industry that ASMI has is what led me to investigate further. I visited the campus in Hornsby, met the lecturers and tutors and was impressed with the facilities. A little while later my life was a focus of ultrasound training and it was simply amazing what was covered in 14 weeks of intensive hands-on training. The training covered vital theory cementing important knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology. This theory was always related back to what the sonographic representation should be and how to best demonstrate it. It’s this knowledge that ensures the graduates are clinically focussed sonographers as well as technically proficient scanners. Importantly the techniques and methods developed by the graduates come from a vast pool of experience held by the specialist lecturers and trainers whom which are recognised leaders in the industry. Important tips and techniques that are developed may take years to come across without this focussed directed training. Ultrasound is a difficult but immensely rewarding job. Particularly when you have the skills and knowledge to do the job well and this is recognised by the team of health professionals that rely on you. I can sincerely recommend ASMI as a thorough, targeted and inspiring pathway to immediately develop your career as a medical imaging professional. Lincoln Stow |
