Sue Campbell Westerway has been named the NSW Sonographer of the Year and was awarded with The Pru Pratten Memorial Award.

She is an accredited medical sonographer who has PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney. With a major interest in obstetrics, her research work has included formulation a fetal biometry charts for and Australian population, which were adopted by ASUM in 2001.

Sue teaches the obstetric & gynaecolgy courses at the Australian School of Medical Imaging.

She was delighted and humbled to receive the award from the ASA which has more than 3000 members. Involved in ultrasound for 35 years, Sue has seen many changes in technology since 1975 when she began scanning on a Picker B-Mode system with eight shades of grey. She was one of Australia’s first sonographers and has been involved in research, equipment development, teaching and mentoring. In 1981 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to  study cardiac ultrasound at Mayo Clinic and UCLA Irvine Medical Centre in the US, as well as top heart hospitals in London.

With  a passion for teaching, Sue is a tutor and examiner for many Australian and international universities and colleges as well as the author of numerous journal articles and prolific presenter both nationally and internationally.
